The Songvaar  was a three masted iron ship built in Stockton, England in 1884.  On April the 14th 1912 (the same day the Titanic sank) the Songvaar's chief mate dropped a second anchor as a storm was approaching.  Unfortunately the tide went out and the vessel settled on the anchor and sank, upright, in 8m of water between the northern end of Wardang Island and Point Pearce.  Attempts to re-float the ship failed and it was eventually blown up as a hazard to shipping.

The wreckage is scattered over a large area rising no more than 2m from the sea floor and is home to numerous fish.
